We’re doing some things just right.

Every Iraqi soldier I saw this morning wished me a Happy Thanksgiving.

Updates 1:00pm Thanksgiving Day

Updated 10:30am Thanksgiving Day

Updated 8:30pm Wednesday Evening

For those who may have forgotten we are in the midst of a war and that New York has sustained the single largest number of casualties in that war so far…

Federal authorities are warning law enforcement personnel of a possible terror plot against the New York City subway and train systems during the holiday season, and police are beefing up security in preparation.

An internal memo obtained by The Associated Press says the FBI has received a “plausible but unsubstantiated” report that al-Qaida terrorists in late September may have discussed attacking the subway system.

A person briefed on the matter, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the intelligence-gathering work, said the threat may also be directed at the passenger rail lines running through New York, such as Amtrak and the Long Island Railroad, which are particularly busy with Thanksgiving holiday travelers.

A U.S. counterterror official, also speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to do so publicly, said senior government officials have been briefed because the FBI very recently received credible information about possible attacks over the holiday season, and authorities are particularly concerned about this long holiday weekend.

If you are traveling in the City this holiday season keep your eyes wide open. If you see something say something. No Joke.

Atlas Shrugs has more details here.

Update 8:30pm

ABC TV has an exclusive report with additional details:

A terror suspect arrested in Pakistan by the FBI in recent days provided authorities with details of a bomb plot against the Long Island Rail Road and other information that led to series of high level intelligence and law enforcement conference calls over the past 24 hour and the issuing of a bulletin warning of an unspecified holiday attack on the New York City region’s commuter rail system, ABC News has learned.

The suspect – according to some reports the arrest took place in Pakistan – recently met with Al Qaeda leaders and was able to provide authorities with significant detail as to how the plotters would have carried out an attack if their plans had gotten beyond the so-called “aspirational” stage…

The suspect is believed to have in the past resided in Suffolk County, Long Island.

Read their report here.

Update 10:30am Thanksgiving Day

No incidents reported this morning. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade proceeding as scheduled. Hopefully this attack did not proceed beyond the ‘aspirational’ level quoted in some news articles. Police remain on high alert. Given the attacks in Mumbai, India, yesterday, that is a reasonable precaution. One that every New Yorker should follow.

Update 1:00pm Thanksgiving Day

The Thanksgiving Day Parade has ended, this was the highest visibility event of the weekend.  No reports of any incidents.  Although it is conceivable an attack could take place later in the weekend, it is looking more likely that we can rest a little easier.  Happy Thanksgiving and don’t forget to be thankful for our fighting men and women around the world who help keep us safe to enjoy our freedom and traditions.

THE Iraq War is over.

Flames still burst from various sources and wild cards remain, such as the potential that Muqtada al-Sadr might stomp his feet and encourage his diminished militias to attack us. Yet support for Sadr among Shia is hardly monolithic. In fact, many Shia view him as a simpleton whose influence derives strictly from respect for his father. Others cite the threat from Iran, but the Iranian participation in the fighting here remains overstated.

Nobody knows what the future will bring, but the civil war has completely ended.

The Iraqi army and police grow stronger by the month, and even the National Police (NP) are gaining a degree of respect and credibility…

Through time, trust and bonds have been built between the US and Iraqi soldiers, police and citizens. The United States has a new ally in Iraq. And if both sides continue to nurture this bond, it will create a permanent partnership of mutual benefit.

Thank You U.S. Military

You have answered the call and performed your duties beyond our wildest expectations. You have paid the price for liberating a people who long suffered under a dictator’s boot. You have protected them while the savages attempted to turn their homeland into a killing field. You have mentored them while they learned to stand, walk and run in defense of their own nation.

You are all HEROES!

May God Bless You All

We join all these others in celebrating your Victory!

Can You Hear Them Whining?

The far left anti-war groups that we have faced off against time after time are now belatedly realizing that they were fools tools of the Obama campaign. What we need more of are these:

whiners2

It is pitiful to listen to self deluded maroons complain that they were misled.

From the LA Times:

Activists note that most of the candidates for top security posts voted for the 2002 resolution authorizing President Bush to invade Iraq or otherwise supported launching the war.

Antiwar groups and other liberal activists are increasingly concerned at signs that Barack Obama’s national security team will be dominated by appointees who favored the Iraq invasion and hold hawkish views on other important foreign policy issues…

“Obama ran his campaign around the idea the war was not legitimate, but it sends a very different message when you bring in people who supported the war from the beginning,” said Kelly Dougherty, executive director of the 54-chapter Iraq Misfits Veterans Against the War…

“So, in the short term, we’re going to be disappointed,” Kevin Martin, executive director of the group Peace through Submission Action said. “They may turn out to be all pro-war, or at least people who were pro-war in the beginning.”

November 22, 2008,

The Iraq War is over! American and Allied troops have successfully overthrown a mass murdering dictator, liberated over 27 million people, and helped establish a working democracy in the heart of the middle east.

Join with us in celebrating this heroic achievement and honoring all who made it possible.

The skies cleared over Sag Harbor today as hundreds gathered to celebrate the dedication of the Lance Cpl. Jordan Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge.

p1010739

Members of Jordan’s unit, recently returned from Iraq, joined his family, friends, townspeople and various organizations to pay tribute to this young American Hero. Various local politicians gave speeches and proclamations were read, but the most moving speeches were those of Jordan’s family and his commander.

The weather cooperated with a dry respite from rain during almost all of the ceremony. Patriot Guard Riders lined most of the bridge with flags before having to redeploy to the Sag Harbor side when the restored Marine helicopter flew in to hover over the bridge.

Earlier the American Legion Post hosted a large breakfast for members of Jordan’s Unit, and afterwards the Sag Harbor Fire Department hosted a ‘Hero’s Luncheon’ which was also heavily attended. The Town went out of its way to make the whole event a great success.

Here is a link to pictures from the day.

Here is a report from the East Hampton Press with some excellent photos.

French authorities arrested two anarchists and eight of their democracy hating buddies for their sabotage of the French high speed TGV train network, but two of them appear to have ties to the Times Square Recruiting Station Bombing which took place in March. Julien Coupat and his girlfriend Yldune were in New York attending anarchist meetings before the bombing and were stopped in January while trying to enter Canada illegally while carrying anarchist literature and photos of the recruiting station.

The FBI connected the dots and informed French anti-terrorist police who kept the couple under observation and arrested them after they and their cohorts sabotaged the trains.

Since they left New York before the actual bombing there is still at least one bomber on the loose who has not been identified or arrested.

It may be time for the media flunkies to start asking Bill Ayers some tough questions.

We reported on the terrorist attack here.
