Intrepid, the beautiful Essex class aircraft carrier, battle scarred veteran of three wars, returned to her berth today at the Intrepid Air and Space Museum on Manhattan’s west side.

She was majestically guided by her tugboat attendants while being escorted by fireboats spraying plumes of red, white and blue water into the air. A huge American flag hung from the island on her starboard side. The flag was unfurled as she passed Ground Zero the site of the brutal attack on our city seven years ago.

Welcome home!
