For One Hundred and Nineteen years Private Henry A. Thompson, Medal of Honor recipient, has rested in an unmarked grave in Calvary Cemetery.  That will change with the placement of a stone commemorating his honorable service to his nation and to the United States Marine Corps.  Join us for the unveiling of the headstone.

Private Thompson, whose real name was Roderick P. Connelly, earned the Medal of Honor for his bravery under fire at the assault on Fort Fisher, North Carolina, January 15, 1865.  The successful assault closed the last remaining supply route to General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia and helped to seal the fate of the Confederacy.
