NYC/Nassau/Suffolk – Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride – Manhattan to Montauk

The Wounded Warrior Project has initiated its first Soldier Ride in New York. The Empire State Challenge Manhattan to Montauk ride challenges us all to come out, meet and ride with Wounded Warriors. This ride is held in memory of Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter of Sag Harbor who made the supreme sacrifice on April 22, 2008, in Ramadi, Iraq. This is a bicycle ride and walking event. Day 1Thursday, July 24, 2008

Manhattan Ride. Central Park to Battery Park via the World Trade Center. More information to follow.

Fundraiser Dinner at the Airpower Museum in Farmingdale.

Day 2Friday, July 25, 2008

Nassau/Suffolk Ride.  Come join Miss USO and the 77th RRC Army Band to welcome our wounded warriors to Long Island for the second day of the Empire State Challenge!

Where: Babylon Town Hall, 200 East Sunrise Highway, Lindenhurst, NY
When: Friday, July 25, 2008, 9am

Ride Route:

  • Depart Town Hall, West on Sunrise Highway  (.8 mi)
  • Turn South on Wellwood Avenue   (1.3 mi)
  • Turn West on Hoffman Avenue (changes name to Oak Street)  (2.4 mi)
  • Turn South on Route 110   (.5 mi)
  • Turn West on Montauk Highway  (4.8 mi)
  • Turn South on Jones Beach Bike Path to Water Tower (5.3 mi)
  • Turn East on Ocean Parkway to Cedar Beach  (9.8 mi)

Total Distance: 24.9 Miles

Day 3Saturday, July 26, 2008

Suffolk Ride.

There are three separate components of this event:

  • Metric Century (100km/62mile) Ride
  • 35 Mile Challenge
  • 4 Mile Walk

Where: American Legion Post 419, Montauk Hwy and Abraham’s Path, Amagansett, NY
When: Saturday, July 26, 2008, 8am – 5pm

  • 8 – 10am Registration
  • 10am Opening Ceremony and Ride Start
  • 1 – 5pm Post-ride food, beverages and music
  • 4pm Prizes awarded

Donation/Regiostration Fee: $50/Adult, $25/Age 15 and under

  • All pre-registered riders will receive an event T-shirt
  • Riders raising additional money will receive incentive prizes
  • Raise $500 or more and receive a Soldier Ride cycling jersey
